Hans Fruendt was born in Berlin. Graduated as a Dipl.-Ing. in Theatre and Event Technology in 2008. He also finished his studies in Event Technology and Management with a Master of Engineering degree.
He is working as a Lighting Designer, Lighting Manager and Technical Director for dance, theatre and opera.
Hans Fruendt began working in theatre as a technician in 2004 on stages such as Deutsche Oper and Komische Oper, Berlin; Royal Opera House, Covent Garden; Burgtheater, Vienna or Volksbühne, Berlin. As a Lighting Manager he worked freelance for festivals and companies like Sasha Waltz &Guests, Ruhrtriennale and Berliner Festspiele.
Since 2009, he was working regularly in the Russian Far East.
The main focus of his work as a lighting designer is contemporary dance. Together with choreographer Shang-Chi Sun, Hans Fruendt showed productions all over the world.
At the moment he is working at Maxim Gorki Theater in Berlin, where he designs lights for theatre productions by directors like Yael Ronen, Sebastian Nübling, Nurkan Erpulat or Hakan Savaş Mican.
Hans Fruendt is member of the Executive Committee of VladOpera e.V.
